The object of research is the degree of compaction of the ground backfill of transport structures made of prefabricated metal corrugated structures. An experimental method for estimating the degree of compaction of ground backfill of transport structures made of prefabricated metal corrugated structures has been developed. Based on the results of experimental studies, regularities of changes in the speed of propagation of sound waves of ground backfill of precast metal corrugated structures of transport structures depending on its density are obtained. It is established that with an increase in the degree of soil compaction, the speed of the sound wave of impact increases. Experimental studies of the speed of sound wave propagation were conducted in three series of experiments. When comparing compacted ground backfill with bulk density, in the first series of tests, the increase in wave speed was 31.09%, in the second series of tests, the increase in speed was 8.5%, and in the third series of experimental tests – 8.4 %. It is inserted that by increasing the speed of sound wave movement, it is possible to estimate the degree of compaction of ground backfill of transport structures made of prefabricated metal corrugated structures. This will ensure the standard degree of compaction of the ground backfill during its layer-by-layer filling and compaction, which has a direct impact on the load-bearing capacity and durability of transport structures made of metal corrugated structures.
