Abstract

In machine design one of the most important questions is, can a structure canwork normally or does it fail at a given loading. This question can beanswered in a theoretical way by using well founded mechanical models. Thearticle gives a brief summary on the theoretical basis of mechanical modelingof machine parts, i.e. a review of the classical mechanical modelingopportunities for machine parts of both isotropic and orthotropic materials.Finite element (FE) modeling opportunities will also be demonstrated withinsome industrial problems.
